SPE APPLIED TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP "High Pressure/High Temperature" 9 - 12 June 2013 | Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Penang, Malaysia Since the early days of drilling HPHT wells, the oil and gas industry has now evolved to a stage where exploration and appraisal wells are drilled by most operators. Although HPHT wells still pose a significant challenge to our industry, exploration and appraisal drilling has been facilitated by the maturation and subsequent application of technologies increasing their chance of success. The next step is to establish routine HPHT development well which at the current time are very limited in count. With the opportunity of in-depth discussions and sharing of proven as well as evolving technologies, this workshop aims to furnish the participants with knowledge and tools to enhance their ability to successfully plan, engineer and execute the drilling and completion of their HPHT wells. This workshop focuses on how technologies have come together and jointly contributed to improved safety and efficiency in drilling, evaluation and completions of these challenging wells. The next step, safe long term development and management of HPHT reservoirs and wells, requires further understanding of flow assurance and geomechanics. The workshop will promote robust HPHT well construction and operations through: - Emphasis on systematic planning and development of technical competencies as well as organisational capability
- Addressing risk and uncertainties in a proactive manner
- Sharing current practices to deal with major HSE concerns (well control, well integrity)
- Managing HPHT interfaces with reservoir, petroleum, completion, drilling and facilities engineers
- How to manage HPHT wells once on production, what is different to exploration and appraisal?
- Examining full life cycle well design and operation considerations
- Understanding the role of geomechanics in life of well integrity
- Presenting case histories of drilling, completing and producing HPHT wells
- Raising awareness of current technology limits as well as needs for ultra-HPHT wells
