PETROLIAM Nasional Bhd (Petronas) melantik syarikat Sarawak, North Java Sea Group Sdn Bhd (NJS) di bawah Program Pembangunan Vendor (VDP) kendalian syarikat minyak negara itu.

Petronas dalam satu kenyataan memaklumkan, NJS yang merupakan syarikat perusahaan kecil dan sederhana dalam industri minyak dan gas akan menghasilkan dan menyediakan peralatan berasaskan tali untuk kemudahan luar pesisir milik Petronas di Sarawak.

"Pelantikan NJS di bawah VDP menandakan usaha berterusan Petronas untuk membangungkan PKS berkaitan minyak dan gas di negeri tempat Petronas beroperasi," menurut Pengurus Besar Kanan Kumpulan Pengurusan Rantaian Bekalan Petronas Norliza M Nawi.

Menurut beliau, VDP akan membantu PKS tempatan untuk menaikkan keupayaan mereka melalui panduan dan standard yang ditetapkan Petronas bagi memenuhi keperluan industri untuk produk dan perkhidmatan bersesuaian di negeri seperti Sarawak yang memiliki industri minyak dan gas.

"Peluang ini juga membantu PKS untuk mengukuhkan dan mengembangkan perniagaan mereka," katanya selepas majlis menandatangani pelantikan NJS di Bintulu, Sarawak yang turut disaksikan oleh Menteri Pembangunan Industri Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan.

NJS diwakili Pengarah Urusannya Abdillah Yasin.

Di bawah VDP, NJS akan menghasilkan tangga tali kecemasan, tangga juruterbang dan bakul pemindahan pekerja yang pada masa ini dibekalkan dari luar negara.

Alatan penyelamat ini digunakan di platform dan kapal marin bagi memastikan keselamatan kakitangan semasa pemindahan mereka daripada kapal laut atau helikopter ke platform dan sebaliknya.

Ditubuhkan di Miri, NJS pada masa ini satu-satunya syarikat di Malaysia yang mengeluarkan alatan seperti itu.

VDP ialah program Petronas untuk membangunkan vendor Bumiputera berdaya saing dalam industri minyak dan gas.

Pada 2013, sebanyak 1,200 vendor Bumiputera telah menerima kontrak di bawah program itu.

 

Outrage over peninsula teacher's Facebook remarks on Sabahans

Kota Kinabalu: State Education Director Datuk Jame Alip appealed for calm Wednesday after a peninsula teacher posted what was deemed to be derogatory remarks on Sabahans in her Facebook account.

The teacher, one Nor Mastura, an Ustazah (religious teacher) posted to a Tenom school alluded that Sabah could not do without teachers from the peninsula and that Sabahans do not have what it takes to become teachers.

Netizens went on the offensive on Facebook in which someone also posted a photograph of the teacher but Jame played down the whole issue.

He called on all teachers in the State not to make anymore comments and spread them in the social media network.

The department is in the midst of investigating the situation and compiling a full report to be submitted to the Ministry for further action.

"We are aware of the comments made on Facebook over the posting Éthat is why a full investigation will be carried out and a complete report would be sent to the Education Ministry so that appropriate action can be taken.

"But I feel, actually, in this matter, it is a non-issue whether the teachers are from peninsula, Sabah or Sarawak because we are all Malaysian teachers.

"The issue of posting teachers to Sabah or Sarawak is a normal thing which is aimed at strengthening national integration," he told Daily Express when contacted.

Now, he said there are more Sabah teachers in the primary and secondary schools in Sabah, accounting for about 80 per cent while peninsula teachers posted here account for 10 to 20 per cent with some from Sarawak.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Jame said there were more peninsula teachers posted to Sabah because the State at that time was facing a shortage of qualified teachers, which is not the situation anymore.

SGTU Tenom branch chairman Jalal Maarof said they have issued the letter to the teacher on August 19, whose Facebook post was captured and disseminated on social media, triggering local outrage.

"For a profession which has to uphold integrity and teaching professionalism, such comments are disturbing and could affect the unity and national integration amongst the local Sabahan teachers as well as their counterparts in the Peninsula and Sarawak.

"If there is any dissatisfaction, there are appropriate channels to go through and not make it public on social networks, such as the Facebook," said Jalal in his letter.

Jalil also gave a 7 day deadline for the apology.

Previously, there have been calls to deploy local teachers in rural Sabah due to language and cultural differences faced by peninsular Malaysians posted to the locations.

It was also more costly to transfer a teacher from the peninsula to Sabah compared to employing a Sabahan teacher.

 

Petronas okays 10pc stake

Kota Kinabalu: Petronas has officially agreed to give the Sabah State Government a 10 per cent stake in the Liquefied Natural Gas Sdn Bhd 9 (LNG 9) in Bintulu, Sarawak.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman (pic) said as announced in the State Assembly sitting in July, Petronas had then in principle agreed to give Sabah a five per cent stake in the LNG operation but said the State Government would push for a 10 per cent stake.

"I am pleased to announce today that Petronas has agreed to give Sabah greater participation by increasing our stake to 10 per cent," he said in a statement, Wednesday.

Musa said the offer was the result of several negotiations between the State Government and Petronas.

He said the State Government was committed to developing Sabah's oil and gas industry, clearly demonstrated by high impact projects such as the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial that also houses, among others, the RM4.5 billion Sabah Ammonia Urea Plant.

"I am confident that through the close cooperation with Petronas, Sabah can expect more exciting developments in the oil and gas industry," he said.

Providing Sabah a bigger stake in the oil and gas industry was among the formula that Petronas had agreed to work on instead of increasing the annual cash payment or royalty from five per cent to 20 per cent.

Musa had said that it was not necessary to table a motion in the State Assembly because the State Government had its own way of doing things in getting more from the oil and gas sector from Petronas.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, during his visit here recently, said Musa had always raised the matter to him whenever they had the chance to meet.

Towards this end, Najib said he had instructed Petronas to look into a formula in order for Sabah to benefit more from the oil and gas sector.

Petronas had explained that it would not be able to increase the five per cent cash payment because it might render the county's oil and gas not viable to investors.
