SPE Applied Technology Workshop (ATW): Carbon Capture & Storage - Emphasis on Offshore Carbonate Reservoirs

SPE APPLIED TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP
"Carbon Capture and Storage - Emphasis on Offshore Carbonate Reservoirs"

3 - 6 February 2013
Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Penang, Malaysia

The Global Energy resources mix consists of various fossil fuels, renewables and nuclear. These, in combination, will support industrial growth into the future with fossil fuel remaining the major contributor for many years to come. Large gas reserves having high CO2 content are becoming economically feasible to be exploited given high gas demand and new technological development. Development of these fields, especially in the offshore environment, demands solutions for the capture and the responsible disposal of CO2 whilst achieving minimum power utilisation.

This Workshop will review scientific, technical, cost and stakeholder issues on carbon storage that is associated with the development of high CO2 content offshore carbonate hosted gas fields. This includes surface and subsurface disciplines, and will discuss status and prediction of regulations affecting CCS. Technical sessions will address the following topics:

  • Site Selection
  • Injectivity/Injection Strategies
  • Uncertainty and Risk Management
  • MMV at the Injection Zone
  • MMV Above the Injection Zone
  • Challenges in Developing High COGas Fields
  • Storage Design in Large Carbonate Build-ups

For more details about the workshop, please download the brochure below.
